SLS Top 40
This dance music chart is published every week on Monday. The first SLS chart (a disco chart) was published in 1981. It was not on a regular basis and the number of positions varied between 15 and 40. The first regular SLS TOP 40 was introduced in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in 1984. Originally it was an import dance chart. At that time (1984-1990) the ranking in our chart was based upon playlists of illegal radio stations (Radio Decibel, Radio Sjuul, W.A.P.S.), the Ferry Maat Soul Show on Radio 3 (the Dutch national music radio station) and the record sales at import record stores (Attalos, Rhythm Import, Boudisque) in Amsterdam. Over the years the r&b and house music became more mainstream and our chart is nowadays based upon dance tracks in the regular Dutch music charts (Mega Top 100, Nederlandse Top 40/Tipparade) and several dance and r&b charts from all over the world (see the charts in our links sections). All the charts of the current year are available in our archive-section.

SLS Radio
From 2003 to 2016 SLS presented its own live-stream. The live-stream contained the best dance classics from the 70's until now and the latest in urban and club music.

Each week the number one position gets 40 points, the number two 39 and so on till' the number 40 position who gets only one point. The total of these points determine the position in the end-of-year-chart. The end-of year charts and their sources :

All-time Archive
The total result over all the(official) years of the SLS Top 40 you'll find in the All-Time Top 100. You will see that the hits in the late 90's are at the top of the chart. The reason for this is that the records nowadays stay longer in the charts. To compare the hits better we show you decade charts and an the overall chart based upon one source (Dutch Top 40).
